Two Popular Types of Cellulite Surgery
There are many causes behind the development of cellulite, but if you’re serious about getting rid of yours, then you may want to consider cellulite surgery. Cellulite is the accumulation of fat in between the different layers of the skin. The formation of this fat produces a lumpy and dimpled appearance in the skin and is most often compared to the appearance of an orange peel. Cellulite is most commonly seen on the thighs, buttocks, and waist areas and usually crops up in patches.
Cellulite is a condition that mostly affects women and is very rarely seen in men. Many believe that this is due to the hormonal changes that women go through because many cases show up in women who go through the physical and hormonal changes associated with puberty, pregnancy, and eventually menopause. Another item to support this theory is that cellulite also seems to affect women who use birth control pills.
When looking for a quick and effective treatment for cellulite, here are two main types of cellulite surgery that one can choose from. The first one we are going to talk about is traditional liposuction. Liposuction is a procedure in which a thin tube is inserted into the skin through a small incision. In most cases, a probe is used to send ultrasonic pulses into the area that breaks down the fat into small chunks. These chunks are then vacuumed through a suction tube. In other procedures, a simple vacuum is used without the aid of an ultrasonic probe.
Liposuction is not meant as a means to lose weight, but rather to shape the body into a more desirable appearance. This procedure is very effective at removing the fatty deposits of cellulite; however someone who is overweight may quickly become disappointed to see the return of cellulite within a few months of a liposuction procedure. This is because liposuction only removes the initial buildup of fat from the skin. In order to have long-lasting results, a good weight loss routine such as a healthy diet and exercise will need to be maintained to ensure that the cellulite is less likely to return.
Liposuction is quite costly but is most often an outpatient procedure. This means that the patient is allowed to return home the same day that the surgery is performed. Liposuction usually takes anywhere from one to three hours depending on the location and how many areas are being treated. Most patients are able to return to work within a week and can resume normal physical activity within three or four weeks. As with any surgery, liposuction does have some risk involved which should be discussed with the surgeon during the consultation period.
The other procedure we’re going to talk about isn’t technically a form of cellulite surgery, but it is generally considered to be one. It’s called cellulite laser treatment. Although there are different ways in which this “surgery” can be performed, the most popular seems to be with the use of radio frequency waves. These infrared waves are projected into the skin at a predetermined depth using a small hand-held device. These waves work by heating up the fat cells of the cellulite, causing them to melt. As there are no true surgical aspects involved in this procedure, there is absolutely no recovery time involved. This means that you could go in to have your treatment in the morning and be back to work by lunch time if you wanted! Although the results of this treatment are noticeable, they are not as pronounced as liposuction cellulite removal. As with any cellulite removal method, there is always the chance that cellulite can return—regardless of how much one weighs or how active they are—therefore one may have to return for “top up” cellulite removal every few months or years, depending on how quickly the cellulite returns.
Again, cellulite is very common in women. It is estimated that around 90 percent of women will experience cellulite at some point in their lifetime, and studies have shown that it isn’t a matter of how much one weighs, although it does appear that overweight people are at a higher risk of developing cellulite. Cellulite is simply a result of how some peoples’ bodies store fat, causing it to slip between the layers of the skin. Keeping the skin toned and well moisturized can help reduce the appearance of cellulite without the need for surgery; however if you do choose surgery, be sure to speak with your doctor or surgeon to determine whether you are a good candidate for the procedure.
